When the Oromo muslims (from Ethiopia) started to arrive in MN in the early 1990's they settled and the Oromo population started to grow rapidly. Some members of this community felt the need to maintain their cultural and religious identity and heritage. After lots of planning and effort the community bought Masjidu Tawfiq (the current TIC buidling) in 2004 for $240,000 USD.
After the community grew and developed more the name was changed to Tawfiq Islamic Center. Tawfiq Islamic Center (or TIC) is a non profit organization registered under chapter 317 A of Minnestota Statute.
Over the past 10 years the Oromo community has grow and developed and Tawfiq Islamic Center was established to serve that community and its growth through religious, educational, and social service programs.
